It’s not a black and white topic. There are one-time gigs, other pursuits, or opportunities that help you grow and make life interesting. We want to support that. But we want to make sure professional endeavors outside of Luscii don’t create conflicts of interest or affect your time, dedication, or performance at Luscii. So it’s a delicate balance.
With that in mind, here are some examples of what we’d consider OK and what we would consider a conflict of interest and not OK:
If a side activity does cause a conflict of interest — the NOT OK column — your employment agreement asks for written consent before you start, not a conversation afterwards. So if you are anywhere near that line, get the answer in writing. The same article carries a penalty for going ahead without it, and it is the one part of this chapter that costs money.
What you make on your own time stays yours. Your employment agreement says so for anything created under this chapter, as long as you did not use Luscii’s equipment, systems or confidential information to make it. Use your own laptop for your own projects and there is nothing to argue about.
